Holiday Hangouts @ Djaning

We have exciting school holiday programs for your little adventurers. We run them from Monday to Thursday, during the break from 10am – 3pm.

Our next adventure runs over both school holiday weeks. It begins on the 28th of September and runs until the 8th of October.

Our upcoming Holiday Programs are as follows:

Week 1. Monday – Thursday September 28th – October 1st.

The first week of our holiday program is action packed, we have engaging, exploratory, child centred activities and learning for all four days.

Monday is Archery – Today, everyone will create their own bow and arrow from local wood at Djaning. They will explore the art of archery. After finishing their bows, they’ll channel their inner Robin Hood and aim for the target!

Tuesday is Fire Cooking – Today, we will learn how to cook over a fire and safely make and tend to it. We’ll also try a classic campfire recipe or two, taste our creations, and experiment with roasting different fruits and vegetables to come up with our own recipes.

Wednesday is Weaving – This day is full of fun and learning, where everyone will discover the best weaving materials for their projects. Whether it’s armor, dream catchers, or fish traps, we’ve got you covered. Like our other days, there will also be opportunities to try different bush crafts.

Thursday is Shelter – Today, we will practice an important survival skill: building shelters! Using natural materials from the nearby forest, we will create various shelters in different styles and sizes. Don’t miss out on this exciting day!

Week 2. Monday – Thursday 5th of October – 8th of October

The second week of our school holiday hangouts is just as fun as the first. If you’re with us for both weeks, we’ll revisit week one’s activities while introducing new skills. If this is your first week, you’ll discover many engaging and exciting activities.

Monday is Clay – Today our adventurers will enjoy fun activities with clay. They will make pinch pots and creepy monsters, exploring the exciting world of clay. As a bonus, all the kids will get to use the Djaning pottery wheel to create their own piece.

Tuesday is Carving – This is where it all began for our Djaning team; helping our kids carve safely so they could make their own tools and imaginative items was rewarding. From magic wands to walking sticks, the kids love taking home their new creations.

Wednesday is Tracking and Survival – Today, we will cover the basics of tracking animals to identify who and what is near our ‘camp’ using close observation and simple techniques. We will also learn how to stay safe in our camp by finding water, keeping warm, and searching for food sources.

Thursday is Bush Craft – This day allows everyone to practice skills learned previously or explore new techniques. Whether making fish traps, weaving, building shelters, or working with leather, it’s a great day for child-led activities.
