Our upcoming Holiday Programs are as follows:

Monday January 5 – Shelters

Join us for an exciting day of shelter building, where adventure meets education in a natural setting. Along with spending the day in and around the lovely Terania creek, kids will be immersed in action learning that promotes teamwork and creativity. They will learn how to best source building materials for their survival shelter, understanding the importance of each element in their design. Participants will identify plants best suited to structure, floor, and wall materials, gaining knowledge about which resources are sustainable and how to utilise them without causing harm to themselves or the environment. They will also get to explore the surrounding environment, learning vital lessons on ecology and the importance of preserving habitats.

Tuesday January 6 – Archery

This one’s a hit with kids of all ages, offering a delightful opportunity to engage their creativity and imagination. Coming away with their very own handmade bow and a bunch of arrows, they will treasure their creations as symbols of their hard work and ingenuity. They’ll learn the safe use of carving tools, and learn to sustainably source their bow and arrows. This not only connects them with their surrounds but also instills values of environmental consciousness and craftsmanship. All this takes place while playing and practicing their newfound abilities and craft in the beauty of The Channon’s Terania Creek, where the surroundings further enhance their experience of learning and discovery.

Wednesday January 7 – Bush Craft

If Bush Craft conjures up images of old time Australiana, then you’re on the right track, as this practice is steeped in a rich history that celebrates the art of survival and self-sufficiency. We’ll cover everything from knots and weaving, sourcing materials sustainably, to building a sturdy shelter that can withstand the elements, using natural resources found in our surroundings. Additionally, we will explore advanced techniques for getting a fire going using traditional methods, and delve into the myriad of uses for fire beyond just cooking, such as providing safety and signalling for help.

Thursday January 8 – Survival Skills

On our survival skills day, we will embark on an exciting journey of discovery and adventure, immersing ourselves in the essential techniques that ensure our safety and well-being outdoors. In a role-playing way, we will learn to capture water using various methods, make it drinkable through filtration and purification processes, and start our own fire with rudimentary implements such as flint and steel, fostering a sense of accomplishment and resilience. We will also learn to build a small shelter using natural materials and explore different designs that can protect us from the elements. Throughout the day, we will have first aid demonstrations and practices, allowing us to develop crucial skills to respond effectively in emergency situations. This comprehensive experience not only teaches practical skills but also instills a deeper appreciation for the wilderness and the importance of teamwork and resourcefulness for surviving in it.

Monday January 12 – Carving

Learn the tips and tricks of safe and easy carving, from absolute beginners to competent carvers. This day has the kids covered with a variety of activities designed to spark their creativity and enhance their skills. Whether they want to create their own magic wand, an enchanting staff, a sturdy spear, or beautifully crafted bow and arrows, this program offers an engaging and supportive environment. We have the tools, materials, and experience to guide them every step of the way, ensuring that each child not only learns the fundamental techniques of carving but also gains confidence in their abilities.

Tuesday January 13 – Clay

On our exciting clay day, we will be making our own unique pinch pots, allowing everyone to express their creativity while mastering the art of hand-building with clay. Additionally, we will dive into the fascinating process of ‘throwing a pot’ using our wheel, where our experienced instructors will guide you through each step, ensuring that even beginners can create beautiful and functional pieces. By the end of the day, your little one will have crafted several items to take home. All this will take place in the beautiful surrounds of our Adventure Camp on Terania Creek.

Wednesday January 14 – Tracking

Tracking days are always fun. There’s seemingly endless opportunities for deep learning. Through the use of cleverly crafted ‘sand pit traps’ strategically placed the night before, we will have the opportunity to observe and understand the behaviour and tracks of the diverse wildlife that inhabits our area. Our exploration will extend to learning about various scats and ‘signs of life’, and their significance within the ecosystem. We will also get a chance to ‘read landscape’, analysing where, when and why animals may move through certain areas of the landscape.

Thursday January 15 – Wild Play

Our Wild Play days are a personal favourite, loved not only by the children but also by the facilitators. These are the days where we aim to have a combination of all the engaging activities that preceded, creating a rich tapestry of experiences that inspire creativity and exploration. Think of them as a choose your own adventure type day; child-led learning at its best, where the boundaries of imagination are pushed, and every choice leads to a new and exciting journey of discovery. With skilled and highly qualified facilitators by their side, children are encouraged to take risks, embrace challenges, and tap into their natural curiosity. We’ve not had anyone go home after these days without some great adventure story to share, filled with laughter, teamwork, and the joyful spirit of play that resonates long after the day has ended.
