Our upcoming Holiday Programs are as follows:
Monday April 13th – All Things Fire
Come and learn fire skills with us! We learn everything from safety essentials to sourcing wood, understanding fire dynamics in various survival situations, and exploring the techniques needed to build a sustainable fire. Our sessions also cover how to best create a fire for cooking, including selecting the right type of wood, managing the heat efficiently, and utilizing different cooking methods over an open flame. Our attendees will gain foundational skills and/or refine their techniques. This day is designed to enhance confidence and practicality in using fire effectively and safely in the great outdoors.

Tuesday April 14th – Spear Making
This one’s a hit with kids of all ages, offering a delightful opportunity to engage their creativity and imagination. Coming away with their very own handmade spear. They’ll learn the safe use of carving tools, and learn to sustainably source their timber, from which trees and why. Past attendees have decorated their spears with leather samples, weaving creations, and earthen paints. This not only connects them with their surrounds but also instills values of environmental consciousness and craftsmanship. All this takes place while playing and practicing their newfound abilities and craft in the beauty of The Channon’s Terania Creek, where the surroundings further enhance their experience of learning and discovery.
Wednesday April 15th – Leather Craft
On this Leather Craft day, our attendees will gain an invaluable knowledge and hands-on experience to wield a variety of basic leather working tools, practice safest techniques, and learn a variety of methods for creating anything from a simple leather pouch to an elaborately decorated bracelet. Throughout the workshop, participants will not only explore the fundamentals of leather crafting but also dive into various styles and designs, enhancing creativity and personal expression. By the end of the day, attendees will have the confidence to craft their unique creations, applying new skills that could lead to future projects or even a rewarding hobby dedicated to the art of leatherwork.
Thursday January 16th – Survival Skills
On our survival skills day, we will embark on an exciting journey of discovery and adventure, immersing ourselves in the essential techniques that ensure our safety and well-being outdoors. In a role-playing way, we will learn to capture water using various methods, make it drinkable through filtration and purification processes, and start our own fire with rudimentary implements such as flint and steel, fostering a sense of accomplishment and resilience. We will also learn to build a small shelter, make rope and weave using natural materials and explore different designs that can protect and help us when immersed in the elements. Throughout the day, we will have first aid demonstrations and practices, allowing us to develop crucial skills to respond effectively in emergency situations. This comprehensive experience not only teaches practical skills but also instills a deeper appreciation for the wilderness and the importance of teamwork and resourcefulness for surviving in it.
