Wild Ones Homeschooling

We have finally begun our open door homeschool program!

This has been something Fionn and Laura have been planning and developing for close to a decade. We’re so excited to share it with you all, and have already had two very successful days of experimenting, discovering and playing!

In this 9 week term we will have a weekly theme. The first week we had fire, where we practiced making our own fires with flint and steel. We sourced our fuel, we gently placed our tinder and struck our flint and steel to make our mini fires. Our challenge was to then keep it alight for ten minutes without it getting larger than a football! It was indeed a challenge but we all did it! We then got sticky and floury making our own damper which we placed on the fire for an afternoon treat.

This Tuesday we had the theme of Earth. Our ‘students’ made mud paints using different coloured soils and created two large experimental paintings. This is a great way to experiment with texture colour and play. After our artistic foray we each planted our own sunflowers seeds in pots. We’ll be sure to watch these eagerly! We discussed the magic of soil and took soil tests from around the gardens in jars to observe the make up of the earth beneath us – we made clay creatures and soil guardians.

Fun with mud
A fun creative mess we’re only too happy to clean up.

These weekly themes will continue, with next week’s theme being water. We’ll leave it up to your imagination what sort of fun we could have with that!

Besides raising our own three children, we’ve accrued enough experience over the years to feel that this is a worthwhile experience. Letting children explore the world through self directed play is something we’re not just passionate about, but something we live. If you like the sound of this and would like to join us for our next Tuesday’s adventure, places are limited so please get in touch with us to book your spot.

See you next week!
